Rick's art @ the Rove Hotel - DownTown

Image
Rove Downtown, Dubai, UAE Born and bred in Dubai, Rove Hotels is a global lifestyle brand that brings smart, fuss free hospitality to the new generation of modern traveller and nomads who believe in exploring without borders. Earlier this year, the world leading brand selected Arkham Creative founder Tariq ‘Rick’ Sharif to create the Royal portraits for the main lobby of the Rove Downtown, Dubai.   The project proved to be a challenging opportunity for the Bahrain born artist, who is well-known for creating art pieces made purely with paper and a blade. Though a large undertaking, the talented artist created three 2 x 1.5 metre pieces of art that features the Ruling Family of the United Arab Emirates. Each piece consists of seven layers of laser cut acrylic sheets that are layered to form the portraits of the Royal Family and today, the artwork takes pride of place in the lobby of the Rove Downtown, Dubai. Speaking of the project, Arkham Creative Founder Tariq ‘Rick’ Sharif said “W...

My First Charity Auction

Image
Wanted to share a feel good moment from last night. A year ago, I sent some artwork to support a charity event in London. Sadly it didn't, make it in time and I never got the opportunity to play my part.  So the event was held again last night and my art piece of The Heath Ledger Joker was lined up alongside some amazing items donated by legends such as John Terry and Jamie Redknapp to name a few. I'm blessed to say, with the help of my good friend, James Davis @jumdavis , The Joker closed the charity event and put them over the top and now a new school Library and Music room will be built.

Construction Paper, Blades and Batman?

Image
Arkham Creative is an online Art shop and Gallery, where you can see or buy a unique style of art. The images look like printed pictures but if you take a closer look you see that each image is handmade and consist of layers of cut and coloured paper, shaped by using scalpel blades. The whole artwork is made up completely of paper. The end product has a huge wow factor and it’s so good that it gives the impression of a print from far. We had the chance to interview Arkham Creatives’ Founder Tariq Sharif. How did you get started? Was it a hobby at first that turned into a business? I always have been known for being a creative type of person, so one day I was going through the process of printing a poster of Spiderman, and the colours weren’t sharp enough. Sure they looked good on the computer screen but the quality of the colours could never be duplicate d on print. I tried all the printing presses in the kingdom, but they couldn’t match my expectations or either it was WAA...

Artistic Invention

Image
MEET TARIQ SHARIF – A MAN FOR WHOM A NECESSITY QUITE LITERALLY LED TO INVENTION This invention is the artsy kind; what does it have to do with cars? Well, the kind of art that Tariq AKA “Rick” does quite literally has no equal. This is the kind of stuff that appreciates in value and his clientele list includes names such as Simon Cowell, and Eva Longoria. So how did this bold new art form take shape? We had a little chat with Tarek to find out. Tariq, this is some really cool work! Tell us a little bit about how this began! Well it started a couple of years ago. What happened was that I wanted to use a black matt finish and a sharp bright blue for a spider man image that I was working on. For some reason, I simply couldn’t get it done to the vision that I had had in mind. I even went to all the printers in Bahrain but none of them could match what I was looking for. Then as I was printing, the paper jammed and I was like damn it, it would have been easier to cut this out! That’s wh...
