Such an amazing time, got a great spot, got to meet a an up an coming paper artist, got to meet the legendary Bob Layton. the 3 days just flew by like a flash. cant wait to see everyone again in 2020.
Bahrain was the first place I ever showcased my work 5 years ago and it feels amazing to be back home again. The show was amazing, so good to see all the old fans amongest the new faces. Rove Downtown, Dubai, UAE Born and bred in Dubai, Rove Hotels is a global lifestyle brand that brings smart, fuss free hospitality to the new generation of modern traveller and nomads who believe in exploring without borders. Earlier this year, the world leading brand selected Arkham Creative founder Tariq ‘Rick’ Sharif to create the Royal portraits for the main lobby of the Rove Downtown, Dubai. The project proved to be a challenging opportunity for the Bahrain born artist, who is well-known for creating art pieces made purely with paper and a blade. Though a large undertaking, the talented artist created three 2 x 1.5 metre pieces of art that features the Ruling Family of the United Arab Emirates. Each piece consists of seven layers of laser cut acrylic sheets that are layered to form the portraits of the Royal Family and today, the artwork takes pride of place in the lobby of the Rove Downtown, Dubai. Tell us about your interest in Stencil art, how did it come about? I have always been known for being a creative type of person, so one day I was going through the process of printing a poster of Spiderman. The colours weren’t sharp enough, they looked good on the computer screen but the quality of the colours could never be duplicated on print, I tried all the printing presses in the kingdom but either they couldn’t match the sharpness or it was too expensive. So while a stationery store, I saw some amazing colored paper, then a light bulb went off …… so the clerk called the maintenance guy and fixed the light bulb, but then I had a great idea; why not construct the entire image with the colors available.
